HOLLYWOOD,  Dec.16, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) — “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is the first film ever to surpass $100 million in advance ticket sales.

The amount includes $50 to $60 million in advance ticket sales for the film’s opening weekend, which is also a first time record, according to The Hollywood Reporter. And expect those numbers to grow as the film opens late Thursday night.

The previous record for advance ticket sales was held by “The Dark Knight Rises,” with $25 million in advanced ticket sales. Industry experts say “Force Awakens” box office could end up at over $120 million dollars.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” directed by J.J. Abrams and co written by Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan, features a cast including actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Andersen, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow. They join the original stars, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” officially opens in theaters Friday, Dec. 18, rebooting the franchise as Episodes VIII and IX are already scheduled for production.
