Sundance: The Most Anticipated Films

sarahsPark City is about to be flooded with big Hollywood stars in not so Hollywood films: here are just a few of some of the most anticipated films playing at The Sundance Film Festival this year.

“Z For Zachariah” Chris Pine stars alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor, best known for his Oscar nominated turn in “12 Years A Slave”and Margot Robbie of “The Wolf of Wall Street” in this post apocalyptic drama about two male survivors of a cataclysmic disaster competing for the affections of what just may be the last woman on earth.

“Strangerland” features Nicole Kidman in an Australian film about the disappearance of two teenagers in the desert. The film also features Hugo Weaving and Joseph Fiennes.

“I Smile Back” follows Sarah Silverman as a depressed suburban wife and mother who sleeps with whomever she wants, takes whatever drugs she chooses, and disappears whenever he wants, but is forced to clean up her act when faced with prospect of her family’s destruction.

“Experimenter” tells the story of Dr. Stanley Milgram’s psychological experiments on the terrifying implications of social obedience. Peter Sarsgaard plays the enigmatic Milgram.

In a similar vein, “The Stanford Prison Experiment” chronicles the true story of twenty-four male students who were selected to take on randomly assigned roles of prisoners and guards in a mock prison situated in the basement of the Stanford University’s Psychology Building.

But of course, narrative features are only one aspect of the festival. In the documentary lineup, we have profiles of peace activist Barry Crimmins in “Call Me Lucky” and AIDS activist Larry Kramer in “Larry Kramer In Love And Anger,” as well as “City of Gold,” which looks at restaurant critic Jonathan Gold. “Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief” takes aim at one of the most litigious and mysterious institutions in the world. “3 ½ Minutes” examines the tragic 2012 shooting death of a Florida teen outside a gas station.
