SALT LAKE CITY – October 11, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) — I recently had the privilege of sitting with Julianne Moore and Ellen Page to discuss their newest film “Freeheld,” which will be in theaters Friday, October 16.

Based on the true story of New Jersey police lieutenant Laurel Hester (Julianne Moore) and her registered domestic partner Stacie Andree (Ellen Page) battle to secure Hester’s pension benefits when she is diagnosed with terminal cancer.

The film offers up a look at how some of the laws in the country hinder the rights of its citizens and the battle two women took on to correct an injustice.

Ellen Page, who plays Andree, said, “This is one of those stories that is so moving about two women who are such brave and courageous people who did something really, really remarkable and important in a time of unimaginable tragedy.”

In relating about her character, Hester, Julianne Moore said: “I think for anybody to have to put their private life on display, and drag their relationship into a courtroom… I think that would be incredibly difficult.”

The film, which is rated PG-13, also stars Michael Shannon and Steve Carell and is directed by Peter Sollett.
