September 10, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) -“Star Wars” fever has hit the automotive industry. Dodge decked out eight Chargers, including a ‘Hellcat,’ for a Hot Wheels promotion with Uber on Friday in the Big Apple.
Uber, the private ride share company, treated its clients to a ride in the Star Wars First Order Stormtrooper Chargers for free plus customers received an official “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” Hot Wheels car.
Hot Wheels officials said they picked the Charger because it “embodies the look and feel of the Hot Wheels Stormtrooper die-cast car and is sure to turn heads when traversing on the streets of New York City.”
A Fiat Chrysler Automobiles spokeswoman said the Hot Wheels collaboration is a unique promotion and is separate from the company’s promotional partnership with Lucasfilm for the upcoming movie.
The Walt Disney Co., which owns the “Star Wars“ franchise, began a global rollout of merchandise from the new film “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” The rollout event included toys, comics, books and clothing.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” opens in theaters in December.
