June 4 (UPI) — Tiffany Haddish is set to portray Olympic track and field star Florence Griffith Joyner in a new biopic from Game1, a sports-focused content studio.
Florence Griffith Joyner, also known as Flo-Jo, set multiple records at the 1988 Olympics and won three gold medals. She died in 1998 at the age of 38 from an epileptic seizure.
Haddish is also producing the film, which will explore Joyner’s impact on the world of sports.
“My Heart is so full Right now! I can’t even explain how hard I am going to work to honor Her Legacy!” Haddish said on Twitter Thursday about the role.
Al Joyner, Florence Griffith Joyner’s husband and former coach, is producing along with Game1’s Basil Iwanyk and Greg Economou and Melanie Clark of She Ready Productions. Jonathan Fuhrman of Thunder Road Pictures is executive producing.
Al Joyner is additionally serving as a creative consultant and is helping Haddish practice for the role.
The actress is also working with Game1 to produce a documentary series and podcast connected to the biopic.
Haddish will next host “Friday Night Vibes” for TBS, a new series that will premiere on June 18. Haddish will speak with special guests each week.
