LONDON, September 8, 2015 (UPI) — Tom Hardy would consider replacing Daniel Craig in the James Bond film series.

The 37-year-old English actor said as much in an interview with Sky News amid word he is now the odds-on favorite to take over the role. “I think anybody would consider doing Bond, wouldn’t they?” he allowed.

Luther star Idris Elba was rumored for the part for months, but has fallen behind in the BoyleSports betting poll. Odds on Hardy are 2 to 1, with Elba at 3 to 1, Homelandactor Damian Lewis at 7 to 2 and Superman star Henry Cavill at 4 to 1.

Former James Bond portrayer Pierce Brosnan recently voiced his support for Elba, although the actor himself has dismissed casting reports. He did, however, respond to James Bond author Anthony Horowitz after the writer called him “too street” for the role last week.

Craig’s fourth James Bond movie, Spectre, will open in theaters Nov. 6. Hardy is known for such films as Bronson, The Dark Knight Rises and Mad Max: Fury Road, and is scheduled for Legend with Emily Browning and The Revenant with Leonardo DiCaprio.
