Unauthorized ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ Movie to Air on Lifetime
LOS ANGELES, June 16 (UPI) — An unauthorized Beverly Hills, 90210 movie is in the works at Lifetime.
The project will explore behind-the-scenes drama between stars Tori Spelling (Donna), Jennie Garth (Kelly), Shannen Doherty (Brenda), Jason Priestly (Brandon), Luke Perry (Dylan), Brian Austin Green (David) and the show’s producers.
Beverly Hills, 90210 had a 10-season run on Fox from 1990 to 2000. The unauthorized film will focus on the program’s first four seasons and follow it from its many near-cancellations to its success as a pop culture phenomenon.
Jeff Roda (Love Liza) will write the script, with Vanessa Parise (PopFan) as director, Peter M. Green (Mean Girls 2) and Howard Braunstein (The Informant!) as executive producers and Christian Bruyere (A Girl’s Best Friend) as producer.
Lifetime previously released The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story in September 2014, which premiered to just 1.2 million viewers, and will debut an unauthorized Full House movie Aug. 22 following news of the ABC sitcom’s revival at Netflix.
Beverly Hills, 90210 inspired several spinoffs, including reboot series 90210 which aired for five seasons on The CW. Spelling, Garth, Doherty, Ann Gillespie and Joe E. Tata portrayed older versions of their original characters for the show.
