'Star Wars' Fan Daniel Fleetwood Passes Away After Being Granted His Last Wish: To See 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'

HOUSTON, TEXAS – November 10, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) — After bringing you the story of terminally ill mega-fan Daniel Fleetwood, whose last wish was to see “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” we are sad to report Daniel has died.

Director J.J. Abrams decided to allow Fleetwood to watch an unfinished version on November 5.

Daniel’s wife, Ashley released a statement on Facebook shortly after the screening took place: “To all our wonderful supporters, friends, family and awesome strangers: Daniel’s final dream was just granted!!!”

Earlier this morning Ashley posted, “Daniel put up an amazing fight to the very end. He is now one with God and with the force. He passed in his sleep and in peace. He will always be my idol and my hero.”

The post has been shared more than 5,500 times and had hundreds of comments.

Fleetwood’s father, Dennis Fleetwood, confirmed to NBC News that Fleetwood had died.
