SALT LAKE CITY, Dec. 18, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) –“La La Land,” starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, was was voted the best film of the year by the Utah Film Critics Association. The voting took place Sunday night downtown Salt Lake City.
Along with being voted Best Film of 2016, the musical was honored with a three additional wins including Best Actress, Best Original Score and Best Cinematography.
The 18-member Utah Film Critics Association (which includes Gephardt Daily’s film critic Tony Toscano) gathers once a year to vote on which films it will honor as the best of the year.
“It was a tough decision this year, as our top picks were all outstanding examples of the filmmaker’s art,” Toscano said.

Best Directing: Barry Jenkins, “Moonlight”
Best Lead Actor, Male: Casey Affleck, “Manchester by the Sea”
Best Lead Actor, Female: Emma Stone, “La La Land”
Best Supporting Actor, Female: Viola Davis, “Fences”;
Best Supporting Actor, Male: (tie) John Goodman, “10 Cloverfield Lane” and Mahershala Ali, “Moonlight”
Best Original Screenplay: Taylor Sheridan, “Hell or High Water”
Best Adapted Screenplay: Barry Jenkins and Tarell Alvin McCraney, “Moonlight”
Best Cinematography: Linus Sandgren, “La La Land”
Best Original Score: Justin Hurwitz, “La La Land”
Best Documentary Feature: “Cameraperson”
Best Animated Feature: “Kubo and the Two Strings”
Best Non-English Language Film: “The Handmaiden” (South Korea)
