SALT LAKE CITY, Nov. 1, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Opening in theaters Friday is “Hacksaw Ridge,” the true story of American Army medic Desmond T. Doss, who served during the Battle of Okinawa, but refused to kill people or carry a weapon, and ultimately became the first conscientious objector in American history to be awarded the Medal of Honor.
The film, directed by Mel Gibson, stars Andrew Garfield (as Doss), Teresa Palmer, Vince Vaughn and Luke Bracey.
Vaughn plays Sgt. Howell, Doss’ drill instructor, whose responsibility it is to train and ready his men for battle. When Howell discovers Doss is a pacifist who will not carry a weapon or kill, he begins a campaign to drum Doss out of the army.
Bracey plays Smitty, one of the men in Doss’ platoon who believes the conscientious objector is nothing more than a coward.
Gephardt Daily’s film critic, Tony Toscano, sat with Vince Vaughn and Luke Bracey and chatted about their roles in the new film.
“Hacksaw Ridge” opens in theaters this Friday. It’s rated R.
