LOS ANGELES, Jan. 2, 2016 (UPI) — Alan Alda took to Twitter to pay tribute to his friend and M*A*S*H co-star Wayne Rogers, who died Thursday at the age of 82.

“He was smart, funny, curious and dedicated,” Alda tweeted Friday.

“We made a pact to give MASH all we had and it bonded us. I loved Wayne. I’ll miss him very much.”

Alda, 79, played Dr. Hawkeye Pierce for the entire run of the Korean War-set comedy series 1972-83. Rogers played his best friend and roommate Dr. Trapper John McIntyre 1972-75. Rogers later went on to star in the TV series House Calls.
