Weekend Box Office: “Ant-Man” Is No Small Movie

HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA – July 20, 2015 — (Gephardt Daily) — Marvel’s tiniest hero packs a big wallop as “Ant-Man” opened as the number one movie in America this weekend.

The newest superhero debuted with $58 million at the domestic box office, performing a little below the $60 million dollar predictions experts were calling for. The film, starring Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas was running on 3,856 screens in North America.

Coming in at number two was Universal Pictures’ “Minions” with a $50 million dollar box office take. “Minions” has earned $216.6 million in its 2 week run.

Amy Schumer’s comedy “Trainwreck” debuted at number three bringing home just over $30 million.

At fourth place was the animated Disney / Pixar film “Inside Out” bagging an additional $11.7 million dollars. The film has brought in a total of $306.3 million in its five weeks in theaters.

At fifth place “Jurassic World” pulls $11.4 million. The film has earned $611.1 million since opening on June 12.
