Weekend Box Office Tallies: “Jurassic World” Is Eating Everything Up

Hollywood, Ca. – June 14th, 2014 – (Gephardt Daily) – “Jurassic World” set a brand new record this weekend. It is the first film to cross the $500 million dollar mark in a single weekend, globally! The re-boot of the 1993 film series brought home an estimated $204.6 million dollars domestically.

Variety reports that “Jurassic World” opened to a staggering $511.8 million worldwide, the highest global opening of all time. It marks the first time a film has ever grossed more than $500 million in a single weekend. The dinosaur thriller is the top-ranking film from sea to shining sea, after opening in first place in North America and across all 66 international territories where it debuted.”

Of course those numbers aren’t in stone, yet. But these estimates are usually a good prediction of what the actuals will be.

The other films in the top 5 are:

At third place, Dwayne Johnson’s “San Andreas” is still doing steady business with an $11 million dollar take for it’s third week.

Coming in at fourth place in box office tallies, the third chapter of the horror series “Insidious” reaped in just over $11 million bucks.

And in fifth place, “Pitch Perfect 2” has a estimated $6 million dollar weekend. The film has been in theaters five weeks.

Again, all these numbers are estimates and they could change a bit. We’ll post the actuals sometime Monday morning.
