LOS ANGELES, Aug. 17 (UPI) — Comedy duo Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are set to reunite once again in a new Sherlock Holmes based comedy entitled “Holmes & Watson.”
According to Variety, the film written and directed by Etan Cohen who made his directorial debut with Ferrell in 2015’s “Get Hard,” will feature comedic takes on the iconic detective and his trusty partner as they take on enemies from the around the world.
Ferrell is set to portray Holmes while Reilly will appear as the always dependable Watson. Holmes & Watson will mark the third time the pair have appeared together following 2006’s “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby” and 2008’s “Step Brothers.”
Studio Sony Pictures had previously greenlit the film with Sacha Baron Cohen set to star alongside Ferrell but the project stalled after the actor dropped out according to Deadline.
“Holmes & Watson” join a growing list of adaptions based on the fictional sleuth including BBC’s hit drama “Sherlock,” CBS’ “Elementary,” and a currently in-development third entry in Robert Downey Jr.’s “Sherlock Holmes” film series, which producer Joel Silver said could start filming “this fall.”
