NEW YORK, Nov. 4 (UPI) — AMC says it has cast Wyatt Russell — the son of Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn — to play the lead role of Sean “Dud” Dudley in “Lodge 49.”

Written and created by Jim Gavin, the small-screen drama is to premiere in 2018. It is produced by Gavin, Peter Ocko, Paul Giamatti and Dan Carey.

Ocko also serves as show-runner for the program, which follows an ex-surfer looking for a new purpose in life.

“Dud is a layered, complex, and fascinating character who embodies hope and futility, comedy and tragedy, and the fragility of life,” Joel Stillerman, president of original programming and development for AMC and SundanceTV, said in a statement Thursday.

“Wyatt brings the nuance, warmth and depth to this lovable and iconic character, and we’re thrilled to have him.”

Wyatt Russell’s credits include “Black Mirror,” “Everybody Wants Some,” and “Folk Hero & Funny Guy.”
