Enhance Your Curb Appeal Without Breaking The Bank

April 28, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — From bold colors and big numbers to hand-painted pots to do-it-yourself (DIY) mats and throw rugs, you can impress your guests this summer without busting your home improvement budget.

Go for the bold at the front door by painting it in a bright color and then detailing the house numbers where they can’t be missed.  You’ll need a number stencil from the crafts store, and a steady hand.  Of course, try to pick out a paint color that contrasts with your door for the ultimate standout appeal on those numbers.

Create an inviting outdoor space on your porch with a chair or two suitable for sitting pretty. The chairs don’t need to be in perfect shape. Thrift store finds or hand-me-down chairs can still add charm, and you won’t really worry if they get battered by the elements.

Use your DIY skills to make a welcome mat that will wow guests and potential home buyers. Use painters’ tape and spray paint to dress up a plain doormat with a simple design. Then you can play up a color scheme by adding plants and pots that complement your new mat.

Bring instant chic to your front porch pots.  If you have terracotta pots lining your porch steps, try giving them a face lift by adding hand-painted stripes, flowers, or even colored shapes. It’s a small change, but it will get those steps noticed.

Put a rug under your guests’ feet to create a relaxing outdoor room on your front porch. The rug brings softness to the space and encourages guests to sit down and linger. If you place a table for drinks within arm’s reach of a pair of chairs, your guests might never want to leave.

An exterior makeover of your front porch will not only turn the area into a gathering space during the warm summer months, but it can be an inexpensive way to get guests talking about your home long after they’ve driven away.
