MIDVALE, Utah, Nov. 25, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — One person is dead and one is in custody after an apparent shooting at a Midvale apartment complex early Sunday night.

Detective Robert Ungricht, Salt Lake City Police public information officer, said police dispatch received two calls at about 6:56 p.m. relating to an apartment at 7690 S. Center Square.

The first call, he said, reported a domestic incident in progress. The second call was for “shots fired.”

He said a victim was taken to an area hospital and has since died of injuries sustained in the incident.

Details are scant right now, Ungricht said, and officials expect to find the answers to many questions through the investigation, which is in its very early stages.

The Unified Police Department was initially called to the scene; however, the case is now being handled by Salt Lake City PD because “one of the people involved is related to a Unified Police Department employee,” Ungricht said.

He said he had no information beyond that, and said officials are in the process of notifying next of kin.

“Detectives have been called on scene, they’ll be canvassing the area, speaking with witnesses, and gathering any video surveillance that’s available,” he said.

Ungricht said he did not know if the victim lived in an apartment in the complex, or if the shooting took place inside an apartment.

Little information will be available until the investigation is further along, he added.

Gephardt Daily is following this developing story and will provide updates as more details are released.
