Update: Officials ID person killed in I-215 / U-201 crash

SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah, Aug. 13, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — One person is dead and two others in serious condition after a single car crash at the I-215/U-201 interchange in Salt Lake County early Monday morning.

During the crash, the passenger in the backseat, identified as Daniella Juliana Casey, 24, was ejected and died at the scene.

According to officials, Casey was in Utah on leave from the U.S. Navy. She was stationed in Virginia.

First responders were called to the accident site about 2:10 a.m. When they arrived they found Casey dead at the scene and a seriously injured man and woman trapped inside the wreckage.

According to a Utah Highway Patrol news release, the accident occurred as the vehicle, a 2008 Acura passenger car, was southbound on Interstate 215 at State Route 201.

Officials said the vehicle drifted to the right at the SR 201 eastbound off-ramp, entered the gore area and rolled several times.

The driver and front passenger were transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, the news release states.

It was reported by troopers at the scene that Casey was not wearing a seat belt.

The interchange was closed to traffic until 7:30 a.m. Monday.
