1 dead, 2 injured in Uintah County crash

UINTAH COUNTY, Utah, April 9, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A 71-year-old man is dead after a crash on State Route 40 in Uintah County Saturday afternoon.

The crash occurred on SR-40 at mile post 152 just after 3:20 p.m., according to a news release from the Utah Highway Patrol.

A 1993 blue Chevy pickup, with one occupant, was traveling westbound on SR-40 and a 2014 Ford Focus, with two occupants, was traveling eastbound, the news release said. The Chevy made a southbound turn onto 4625 East, failing to yield to the Ford Focus, causing a collision.

The passenger of the Ford Focus, Curtis Gray, of Fruita, Colorado, was extricated with a suspected broken hip, and was transported to Ashley Regional Medical Center in Vernal. He was later transported to Salt Lake City via medical helicopter. During the flight, he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the Chevy pickup was transported to Ashley Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Ford Focus was transported to Ashley Regional Medical Center in serious, but stable, condition.
