COALVILLE, Utah, May 11, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A 75-year-old woman is dead and her son and husband were hospitalized Wednesday after a crash on Interstate 80.
The driver, 48-year-old Chad Jenson of Rock Springs, Wyo., was driving the pickup truck on I-80 on Wednesday when it appears he fell asleep, leaving the truck set on cruise control and going 80 mph, a report from the Utah Highway Patrol says.
The truck drifted to the right side of the road and struck an embankment. The impact caused the truck to overturn and roll several times before coming to rest on its top, the statement says.
The rollover caused severe damage to the cab and the rear passenger area. The driver’s mother, identified as Karen Nelson, of Rock Springs, Wyo., suffered significant head trauma. She was flown by medical helicopter in critical condition, but succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
The driver and his father were transported by ground ambulance with lesser injuries.
