1 killed after crash in residential neighborhood in Elko, Nevada

ELKO, Nevada, Oct. 11, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — One person is dead after a crash in a residential neighborhood in Elko, Nevada Sunday evening.

At approximately 6 p.m., Elko Police Department officers were dispatched to the intersection of 4th and Oak Streets on reports of a crash, said a news release on Facebook.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a Dodge Ram pickup on its side on 4th Street, near the intersection, the news release said.

Evidence at the scene and witness statements indicated the vehicle was traveling northbound on 4th Street at a high rate of speed.

“As the vehicle crested the hill approaching Oak Street, the driver lost control, striking a travel trailer parked on the east side of 4th Street,” the news release said. “The truck came to rest on the driver’s side, resulting in significant damage to the truck and the travel trailer.”

The driver and sole occupant of the pickup was deceased as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. The identity of the driver is not being released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.

The Nevada Highway Patrol and Elko County Sheriff’s Officer assisted Elko Police Department in the investigation.

No other parties were injured in the crash.
