SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Sept. 2, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred at about 2 a.m. Sunday at 355 S. 200 West, in the parking lot of the Moose Lounge in downtown Salt Lake City.

Salt Lake City Lt. Gary Trost told Gephardt Daily that one man was shot multiple times and was “transported by some friends to the hospital as officers were arriving.”

At 5 a.m. Trost said the victim is still in critical condition.

Details are few as to what precipitated the incident and exactly who was involved.

Some witnesses said one suspect jumped into a car, others said two people jumped in the car and took off, Trost said.

Witnesses did get the license plate number of the vehicle, which officers traced to an address (4096 S. 500 East). When they arrived at that location, they found the car, but no one was in it. Two people at that address were detained and questioned, but they were not taken into police custody.

Trost said some witnesses were helpful in providing the description of the car and the license plate, but there were many who heard the shots but didn’t see much.

It still isn’t clear who was with whom at the time of the shooting.

“We still don’t know if the victim was with the people who took him to the hospital, or if they came out of the Moose Lounge, which is right nearby.”

“Detectives are heading to the hospital, and some are at the scene of the shooting,” Trost said. He described the incident as “a lot happening all at once.”

He said it isn’t yet known if the shooting is gang-related, but said it could be, and the Salt Lake City Police Gang Unit is also investigating.

Gephardt Daily will update this developing story as more information becomes available.
