Update: South Salt Lake police officer run down, critically injured by fleeing burglary suspects; 1 assailant shot, killed by police, 2nd in custody

SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah, Nov. 24, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — (UPDATE — 9:48 pm) — A South Salt Lake police officer was critically injured Saturday night after being run down by 2 fleeing burglary suspects.

One of the two suspects was shot and killed by police.

A second suspect who jumped from the car and ran into a nearby neighborhood was captured a few hours later.

The incident took place at business in the area of 3300 South and 300 West.

According to officers on scene, the suspect, who died after being taken to a nearby hospital, had been shot at least 3 times.

The officer who was run over was first reported to be unconscious. He was listed in critical condition as of 10 p.m. Saturday.
