OGDEN, Utah, April 27, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — An 11-month-old Ogden boy was hospitalized for what doctors diagnosed as an overdose of meth and fentanyl, Ogden City police say.
All four adults in the home, where the boy allegedly came across fentanyl pills lying on the floor, have been arrested and charged with multiple child endangerment and drug offenses, including the baby’s mother.
Three have admitted to smoking meth in the residence knowing young children were present, according to charging documents in 2nd District Court. The boy’s 4-year-old sister was also tested and found with the drugs in her system, but without becoming ill
After her release from jail, the mother, Amelia June Olsen, 39, failed to appear for her Thursday arraignment. A no-bail fugitive warrant was issued for her arrest.
“Amelia said that there were fentanyl pills on the ground in the basement and she was concerned the child may have come in contact with them,” according to her probable cause affidavit.
She was at McKay Dee Hospital with the boy when Ogden police arrived Wednesday after medical staff alerted the department of the sick child.
The boy “received emergency treatment for a drug overdose” and was admitted to the hospital, according to charging documents. The current status of the two children was not released in the court files, but typically a relative or the state’s Child Protective Services Division take custody of children in such cases.
During the course of questioning at the hospital Olsen is accused of messaging her sister and co-defendant, Angela Peterson Busker, 49, to pass some meth baggies and a pipe to another individual, adding a charge of obstruction of justice to her tally..
Officers obtained a search warrant for the home in the 2400 block of Polk Avenue, where the children were exposed.
The search turned up about an ounce of meth, loose fentanyl pills, and substantial amounts of prescription drugs Percocet and Xanax, and eight guns. The three adults in the home, the sister and two men, one a visitor, were all arrested.
Individual interviews determined the drugs and guns all belonged to Alexandr Denisko, 41, police said.
Olsen, Busker, and Philip Todd Stevens 52, of Tooele, admitted to smoking meth in the house knowing the children were there, but Denisko denied doing so, according to charging documents.
He admitted all eight guns in the house were his, leading to a total of 16 charges against him. The eight counts of possession of a firearm by a restricted person filed because of his status as a convicted felon banning firearms ownership, according to his probable cause affidavit.
Upon his booking into the Weber County Jail he was found to have fentanyl pills in his pockets and baggies of drugs secreted in his body, the court files say, which required a quick trip to the hospital for their removal.
He was arraigned Friday, and is still in custody, unable to raise his $5,000 bail.
