KANE COUNTY, Utah, April 6, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) —Â A 13-year-old Utah County boy is dead after an ATV accident Thursday in Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park.
The boy, whose name has not been released, was with family and friends, riding a 4-wheeler, when he went over a dune and tumbled down the other side.
The boy was wearing a helmet, but he sustained fatal injuries.
“I don’t have anything on the size of the dune, but there was multiple tumbling of the boy and the machine,” Eugene Swalberg, Utah State Parks spokesman, told Gephardt Daily.
Others in the party transported the teen to the visitors center, where they were met by medical personnel, a ranger and a Kane County deputy.
“They tried to help, but he was pronounced dead at the scene at the visitors center,” Swalberg said.
The boy’s body will go to the medical examiner as part of the investigation, which will be conducted by the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation, Swalberg said.
Utah State Parks released the following statement:
“Our thoughts are with the friends and family of those involved in this tragedy. We would like to remind everyone to please practice safe riding procedures when out recreating this season.”
