BRIGHAM CITY, Utah, Aug. 13, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Box Elder County emergency personnel responded to a report of a missing child Monday night.

According to a news release from the Box Elder County Sheriff, the initial call came into the communications center at about 9 p.m.

The boy was first reported as being 3 years old, but it was later learned that he was only 16 months old.

It was feared that the child had fallen into the canal near the residence, the news release states.

All agencies responded to the area, and Box Elder Scuba and Search and Rescue were assembled.

The boy had been missing for 20 to 30 minutes at that point, and the canal company was notified and started turning water out of the canal.

Around 9:45 p.m., the release says, “the child was found in a body of water east of the residence, deceased.”

No other details were available Monday night.

Gephardt Daily will update this tragic story as more information is released.
