17-year-old boy dies after moped accident in Provo

PROVO, Utah, May 28, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A 17-year-old boy died after falling off a moped in a church parking lot in Provo Friday evening.

The incident happened in the parking lot of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Provo multi-stake Center, 350 N. 900 East, Provo Police Department tweeted Tuesday afternoon.

“Provo Police and Fire responded to a church parking lot, located at 350 N. 900 East, concerning a 17-year-old male that was reported to have fallen off a moped,” the tweet said.

The injured male was transported to the hospital where he died due to his injuries.

“Staff at Utah Valley Hospital were able to keep the 17-year-old alive long enough to allow his family to say their goodbyes,” the tweet said. “While this is truly a heartbreaking incident, we appreciate medical staff working so hard to be able to give one last moment for the family.”

The Provo Police Department investigates all deaths due to motor vehicle accidents that occur in its city, according to a follow-up tweet.

“While this is still an active investigation, preliminary observations show that this was an accidental death,” the tweet said.

The teen has not been identified due to his juvenile status.
