SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Nov. 12, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — An 18-year-old Salt Lake County man was arrested on child abuse charges Sunday.

A probable cause statement from the 3rd District Court of Salt Lake County said Koby Bonomo is facing one charge of child abuse — inflict serious injury intentionally, a second-degree felony.

The statement said Bonomo was left in charge of the victim, a 10-month-old baby, on Saturday at approximately 6 p.m. at an address in West Fine Drive in South Salt Lake.

“The child did not have any injuries at the time he was left with the A/P (accused person),” the statement said. “The baby was found to have several bruises that were discovered on the child’s face, arms, legs at 10:15 p.m. when the child’s mother returned home.”

The child was taken to Primary Children’s hospital at around 3 a.m. Sunday. As well as the bruises on his face, arms and legs, the child was found to have sustained a spiral fracture to the femur of his left leg. The child was then admitted to the hospital.

“The A/P stated he was the only person in the room with the child when the injuries had happened,” the statement said. The A/P stated the child fell off the bed. Primary Children’s Hospital personnel that specialize in the treatment of children had stated the spiral fracture of the femur is consistent with being caused by another person such as pulling or twisting on the leg.” The contusion injuries also appeared to be caused by another person, hospital staff said.

The child’s mother stated Bonomo had been using heroin and had been nodding off prior to caring for the child.

“The A/P was reported by the child’s mother to have anger issues stemming from his juvenile years,” the statement said.

Bonomo was transported to the Salt Lake County Jail with his bail set at $25,000. He also has a detention juvenile warrant after he fled from a juvenile drug program in Layton a few months ago.

  1. If the mother knew he was using heroin and nodding off shoudnt she be charged with child endangerment? Sounds like he wasnt in the right state to even be watching the child.
