BEAR LAKE, Utah, Sept. 27, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A young woman died from injuries sustained after her hair became entangled in a motorboat propeller during an outing on Bear Lake.

A group was boating after dark when the 18-year-old jumped off the boat without a life jacket, according to the Utah Division of State Parks.

Wind then pushed the boat over onto her, and her hair was caught in the boat’s propeller, said Lindsay Higbee, a state parks public information officer, of the 9:30 p.m. incident Saturday.

Her fellow boaters were able to free her and call 911, she said, but the woman was unresponsive.

“It was horrific,” Higbee said, “Truly, truly sad.”

A LifeFlight medical helicopter flew the 18-year-old to Ogden for treatment, but she did not survive her injuries.
