2.9 magnitude earthquake rattles St. George area

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah, July 24, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A 2.9 magnitude earthquake shook the area south of St. George Tuesday night as residents settled in for the night.

The earthquake, a little southeast of St. George, was recorded at 10:33 p.m. by the University of Utah Seismic Center. The earth shifted at a depth of seven miles.

According to the United States Geological Service, 86 people had reported feeling the relatively minor quake as of 1 p.m. Wednesday.
