PROVO, Utah, May 11, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A man and woman were injured Saturday after crashing into another vehicle, veering off the road and hitting a boulder in Provo Canyon.

The crash occurred about 5 p.m. on U.S. 189 near Vivian Park, where a southbound Mercedes crashed into a southbound Kia Optima while attempting to change lanes, Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Luis Silva said.

Both vehicles ended up about 20 feet off the road, and the Mercedes crashed into a boulder, Silva said.

Two of the five people in the Mercedes — a man and woman in their 60s or 70s — were injured in the crash, he said.

The woman was taken by medical helicopter to an area hospital in serious condition, while the man was transported to a hospital by ambulance in stable condition, Silva said.

The other three passengers in the Mercedes and the single occupant of the Kia were uninjured, he said.

One lane on southbound U.S. 189 was expected to be closed until about 7 p.m., according to UHP.
