SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, July 31, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Two juveniles were wounded in a drive-by shooting in Rose Park Wednesday afternoon.

Salt Lake City police spokesman Greg Wilking told Gephardt Daily a report of shots fired in the area of 1000 N. Catherine St. came in shortly after 1:45 p.m.

“We had two juveniles that sustained gunshot wounds. It doesn’t look like they are life threatening at this point,” Wilking said. “They’ve been transported to be treated at a local hospital.”

He said the street is shut down while officials gather information about the suspects in the case.

“Detectives are looking into what occurred here today,” Wilking said. “By all accounts, it looks like it was a drive-by shooting.”

Wilking said it appears the victims were in front of a residence, but it’s not clear what their relationship is to that house.

It’s not known at this time what the relationship was between the suspects and the victims. It’s not clear if the incident was gang related.

Wilking added there were a handful of witnesses that detectives are now getting statements from, and officials will also be canvassing door to door in case residents might have doorbell cameras or surveillance footage.

Wilking said officials may be able to release suspect information, including a description of the vehicle, later Wednesday afternoon.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
