MIDVALE, Utah, Jan. 1, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Two people are in custody and one is in serious condition in the hospital after a home invasion in Midvale Sunday morning.

Unified Police Department Det. Ken Hansen said that at approximately 11:10 a.m., two bat-wielding  men, ages 36 and 38, began pounding on the front door of an apartment in the area of 935 E. 7370 South.

A man, 26, and a woman, 24, inside the apartment attempted to barricade themselves inside by blocking the door with chairs, but the two men kicked the door in, said Hansen.

Authorities said the woman was the ex-girlfriend of one of the men who broke in.

Hansen said once inside the apartment, the two suspects broke a computer and disrupted other property, then began assaulting the 26-year-old man.

Hansen said the man inside the apartment had armed himself with a knife and stabbed the two suspects, who then drove themselves to Intermountain Medical Center for treatment.

One of the suspects was arrested at the hospital and booked into Salt Lake County Jail on aggravated burglary charges.

The other suspect is in serious condition and will be arrested when he is released from hospital.

Police also arrested the man they say stabbed the home invaders because of an existing warrant, and he was also booked into Salt Lake County Jail. It is not known whether he will face any charges related to the incident, Hansen said.

The woman was unhurt.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
