KANE COUNTY, Utah, August 3, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Two motorcyclists were killed and 2 others injured in a crash on Highway 89 outside Kanab Thursday morning.

According to the Utah Highway Patrol a group of 8 bikers was eastbound on SR 89 near mile marker 60 when one of the riders realized he’d forgotten a bag at a local McDonald’s.

The UHP said the rider pulled to the front of the group and told fellow cyclists he was returning to the restaurant and would catch-up with them later.

UHP investigators said four of the riders stopped in a travel lane “waiting for traffic to pass” when they were hit by a white GMC pick-up truck.

“The driver of a white GMC truck did not see the riders stop in time,” the UHP said. “He applied his brakes but was unable to avoid a collision.”

Los Angeles resident Ingreborg Treitinger,62, died at the scene. Brigit Stein, 50, a tourist from Germany passed away at a Kane County hospital.

A third rider was transported from the Kane Co. hospital by air ambulance to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George in critical, but stable condition.

A fourth rider suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The UHP said the group was headed from Los Angeles to the 2018 Sturgis motorcycle rally in Sturgis, South Dakota at the time of the accident.
