BOX ELDER COUNTY, Utah, Sept. 10, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Two women were seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash on State Route 30 in the early hours of Monday morning.
Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Lee Perry told Gephardt Daily the crash happened around 1:35 a.m. The women were in a 1997 Dodge pickup truck, eastbound on SR-30 between mileposts 52 and 53, about three miles outside of Park Valley.
He said the women were heading back toward Snowville from Lucin after helping a friend who was having a problem with a vehicle.
“The driver fell asleep and went off the road to the right,” Perry said. “She overcorrected, went back, the vehicle rolled and did a complete rotation, landing on its side, facing the wrong direction. One of the women crawled out of the vehicle and called for help.”
The driver, a 41-year-old woman from Ogden, is in critical condition, and her 49-year-old passenger is in serious condition, Perry said.
Medical helicopters landed in the parking lot of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Park Valley to transport the driver to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden and the passenger to Ogden Regional Medical Center.
The women’s names have not been released yet.
Perry said drowsy driving appears to be the cause of the accident, and officials do not suspect any impairment.
Gephardt Daily will update this story as more information is made available.
