SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Nov. 22, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A 16-year-old boy fleeing a traffic stop crashed the vehicle he was driving into another car, injuring two people Thursday night.

The collision occurred at 300 North and 900 West.

Salt Lake City Police Lt. Mike Hatch told Gephardt Daily that officers attempted to stop the vehicle the youth was driving for a traffic violation.

The teen fled for reasons currently unknown, Hatch said.

Officers did not pursue the vehicle.

“About three and a half blocks later, he crashed into another car,” Hatch said.

A man and woman in their 30s suffered critical injuries in the crash and were transported to the hospital.

The teen who crashed into their car was not injured. Police later said a passenger in the teen’s car fled the scene of the crash, and officials are working to locate that person.

It also appears that the teen did not brake prior to the crash, and he was likely going over the speed limit, Hatch said, adding that the incident is still under investigation and those details have not yet been confirmed.

Gephardt Daily will update this developing story as more information becomes available.

  1. Tragic. Those two innocent people critically injured. Kudos to the officer who chose not to pursue the driver. I have no doubt it would have been a high speed pursuit which could have been worse.
