WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, May 15, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Two teens are in custody after a break in at Granger Elementary School in West Valley City in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
West Valley City Police Department spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku told Gephardt Daily that at about 2 a.m., Granite School District received an alarm drop, which means an alarm was triggered.
Officials then viewed surveillance, and saw two subjects wearing masks enter the school, at 3700 S. 1950 West.
“The males were then seen on surveillance leaving towards the rear of the school property,” Vainuku said. “Officers arrived and contained the area.”
K-9 Maverick and his handler were able to locate the subjects hiding in a field north of the school, concealed in a drainage ditch.
A 13-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy were taken into custody without incident, and booked into juvenile detention.
Granite School District maintenance responded to repair the damaged door and secure the school.
It doesn’t appear at this early stage that anything was stolen in the course of the incident.
