UTAH COUNTY, Utah, Jan. 27, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A tow truck driver was critically injured Sunday night when he was struck by a car while assisting another motorist on U.S. Highway 6.

The incident happened at about 8 p.m. on eastbound U.S. 6, about two miles west of Sheep Creek, according to information from Utah Department of Transportation.

The crash sent the tow truck driver and at least one other person to the hospital via helicopter, Sgt. Brady Zaugg, Utah Highway Patrol, told Gephardt Daily.

“A vehicle was off the road at about Milepost 193 on U.S. 6 eastbound,” Zaugg said, “and a tow truck went up to assist. Another car went off the road and hit the tow truck driver while he was out of his truck. A passenger in the vehicle that hit the tow truck driver was also seriously hurt.”

Zaugg said the driver of that vehicle complained of some chest pain, but did not appear to be seriously injured.

Everyone involved is an adult.

The road was blocked while emergency responders were on scene and to make way for the medical helicopter to land.

Zaugg said crews were working as quickly as possible to get the area cleared for traffic.

No information was immediately available as to what caused the vehicles to go off the road in the first place.

Gephardt Daily will update this developing story as more information is released.
