SOUTH SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, August 20, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Two Utah law enforcement officers suffered minor injuries Sunday when their motorcycles collided in South Salt Lake.

The accident happened about 11:45 near 2200 S. State Street.

According to South Salt Lake Police spokesman Sgt. Gary Keller, the officers were taking part in the annual Ride for Fallen Officers along with thousands of other bikers when the accident happened.

Keller said the exact cause of the crash had yet to be determined, but it was clear the bikes bumped together throwing both police officers to the pavement.

Both officers — one from the Utah Highway Patrol, the other from Pleasant Grove — sustained bumps and bruises, but were otherwise okay.

Ride organizers anticipated as many as 3,000 riders would take part in the event.

Sgt. Keller said with a crowd that size an accident isn’t entirely unexpected.

“When you have this many motorcycles riding together, and police officers attempting to direct traffic, it’s not unheard of for an incident like this to occur,” Keller said.

  1. I was 7 bikes back. I was taking pictures of the bikes. I have a photo of when it happened. I am so happy they are ok and back on duty protecting us soon. Bless them and their families as they heal.
