PAYSON, Utah, July 7, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — A 2-year-old boy died after being struck by a vehicle in Payson Sunday.

“Just after 6 p.m., Payson police and emergency responders were dispatched to an auto-pedestrian accident in the area of 400 S. 400 East,” said a news release from Payson Police Department.

“Unfortunately, and after life-saving measures were exhausted, 2-year-old Levi Martinez passed away as a result of his injuries.”

The accident occurred when a family member was moving a vehicle in the driveway of the home preparing to use fireworks, the news release said.

“The vehicle collided, as the driver did not see the child in front of the vehicle,” the news release added. “The trauma sustained from this collision resulted in his passing. While toxicology results are pending for the driver, there is no indication that this was anything other than a tragic accident.”

All parties present, including the driver, were cooperative with the investigation.

“The members of the Payson Police Department would like to express our deepest condolences to the Martinez family at the loss of their child, Levi,” the news release added.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to assist with funeral expenses.

“He was a bright, happy, shy, and loving little boy,” the GoFundMe page says. “He loved music, cars, the outdoors and his family. He loved his little brother and was exceedingly close to his mom and dad. Levi will be sorely missed by anyone who had the chance to meet him.”
