SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, July 8, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Salt Lake City fire investigators are trying determine the cause of an early fire that ended up torching 20 automobiles at Salt Lake City International Airport overnight
The fire was first reported at 12:35 a.m.
When fire crews arrived they found nearly a dozen cars in flames in the Hertz Rental Car Parking Lot. Another dozen cars were heavily damaged by the intense smoke and heat.
Firefighters said the cars were parked close together in a distant lot, making it easy for the fire to spread and more difficult for firefighters to get water to the fire.
After approximately 30 minutes crews brought the blaze under control.
Damage to the cars is estimated in excess of $100K.
There were no reports of injuries.
Investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
Gephardt Daily will update the story as more information becomes available.
