WEST JORDAN, Utah, Sept. 13, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Police are searching for two suspects involved in the shooting death of a 20-year-old man at a West Jordan restaurant early Thursday morning.

West Jordan Police Lt. Jeremy Robertson told Gephardt Daily officers were called to  Rancherito’s Restaurant at 7849 S Redwood Rd. about 12:35 a.m. with reports of shots fired.

When officers arrived they found a 20-year-old male inside the restaurant unconscious and bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torso.

Police started CPR until medical teams could take over. The victim was rushed to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray where he was pronounced dead a short while later.

Witnesses told police the shooting took place while two men were standing at the counter ordering food. They said two other men — both believed be in their late teens or early 20s — walked into the restaurant and became involved in a “verbal altercation” with the men at the counter. One of the men who walked in pulled out a pistol and shot the 20-year-old victim multiple times.

According to Robertson, the suspects ran from the restaurant and disappeared into the surrounding neighborhood.

Police set up containment efforts calling in K-9 tracking units from multiple agencies as well as a search helicopter from the UHP. As of 5:30 a.m. the shooting suspects remained at large although police believe they have solid leads about their possible identities.

Investigators were just beginning to round up surveillance video from inside the restaurant as well as nearby businesses.

Unified Police along with the Metro Gang Unit are taking part in the investigation.

Gephardt Daily will update the story as more information becomes available.
