CEDAR CITY, Utah, June 27, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A 21-year-old man is dead after his vehicle collided with the rear of a sweeper truck on Interstate 15 near Cedar City in the early hours of Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Joshua M. Caruso, from Orderville, Utah Highway Patrol officials said in a news release.

Caruso was driving a 2004 silver Dodge Neon headed south on I-15 near milepost 43 at approximately 2:50 a.m., when the crash occurred, the news release said.

“This area is currently under construction and the inside lane was closed for paving,” the news release said. “The driver of the Dodge Neon was traveling in the outside travel lane at approximately 70 mph. For an unknown reason, he allowed the vehicle to suddenly swerve to the inside travel lane.”

There was a large sweeper truck in this lane that was closed for construction. The Dodge Neon collided with the rear of the sweeper truck.

This collision caused fatal injuries to Caruso, who was not wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the sweeper truck was not seriously injured.

A GoFundMe account that says it is created to help with Caruso’s final expenses can be viewed by clicking here.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
