28-Year-Old West Valley City Woman Dies In Idaho Crash

JEROME, Idaho, June 15, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A 28-year-old woman from West Valley City died in a single-vehicle rollover near Jerome, Idaho, on Wednesday morning.

The woman who died has been identified as Johanna Melgar-Vasquez.

An earlier news release from the Idaho State Police suggested it was Erik Bahena, 25 and from Taylorsville, who passed away. Bahena survived, and was transported to the Saint Luke’s Magic Valley in Twin Falls. His condition was not shared.

The ISP statement concerning the accident said officers investigated vehicle rollover crash on west I-84 at milepost 187 at approximately 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

A 2011 Nissan Versa, driven by Johanna Melgar-Vasquez, was traveling west when she lost control and the vehicle rolled, coming to rest on Frontage Road. Melgar-Vasquez was ejected and died at the scene.

Her passenger, Erik Bahena, 25-years-old and from Taylorsville, also was not wearing his seat belt, and was ejected, but survived.
