WOODS CROSS, Utah, Aug. 31, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Three people are dead after a wrong-way crash early Friday morning on southbound I-15 in Woods Cross.
The accident was first reported to 911 dispatchers about 1:15 a.m. When rescue crews arrived they found two heavily damaged vehicles, including a pick-up truck, which was burning in the southbound lanes near mile marker 316.
According to UHP Lt. Mike McKay, the F-150 pick-up truck was reported headed north in the southbound lanes of I-15 when seconds later it hit a small Hyundai passenger car head-on.
McKay said the F-150 caught fire after the crash and was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.
A man and woman inside the southbound passenger vehicle were killed in the accident, as was the driver of the pick-up truck. Investigators have yet to determine if the person in the pick-up was male or female.
UDOT is advising motorists to use Legacy Parkway as an alternate route to avoid delays. Early estimates put lanes being re-opened around 5:30 AM but are subject to change.
Gephardt Daily will update the story as more information becomes available.
