WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, March 31, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Three men in a stolen vehicle tried to elude police Thursday night, but they couldn’t get away from the Department of Public Safety helicopter overhead.

West Valley City Police Lt. Robert Hamilton said that at about 11:15 p.m., a patrol car came upon the occupied stolen vehicle at 2400 S. Redwood Road in West Valley and followed it at a distance.

The Public Safety chopper was also in the area and maintained communication with police, so when the men in the car realized they were being followed and immediately fled, there was no need for officers to initiate a pursuit.

The suspects decided to abandon the vehicle in the area of 860 S. Kensington Ave. in Salt Lake City, and by then officers and K-9 units from West Valley, Salt Lake and Unified police departments were working together to set up a containment area.

All three suspects were taken into custody. Hamilton said the driver of the stolen vehicle was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and a firearm.
