Update: 14-year-old girl critically injured in Riverton crash dies

RIVERTON, Utah, Oct. 2, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A 14-year-old girl who was in critical condition after an early morning accident at 12600 S. 2700 West in Riverton has died.

Unified Police Detective Ken Hansen said in a tweet at 2:45 p.m. the deceased has been identified as Kaiden Cherrington.

“Our deepest sympathies go out to the Cherrington family,” the tweet said.

Hansen told Gephardt Daily the accident happened just before 7 a.m. Tuesday when the 16-year-old driver of a Volkswagen Beetle attempted make a left turn from 2700 West onto 12600 South and pulled into oncoming traffic.

The Volkswagen was hit broadside by a Subaru passenger vehicle.

The 16-year-old male driver was injured in the crash and sustained serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Cherrington, a passenger in the vehicle, was critically injured and flown by Life Flight to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray.

Another child passenger, believed to be 3 or 4 years old, was also seriously injured, and was rushed to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City by ground ambulance.

The driver of the Subaru was uninjured.

Hansen said the exact cause of the crash has yet to be determined.
