WENDOVER, Utah, May 27, 2020 (Gephardt Daily) — Three teenagers were flown to an area hospital after a crash on the Bonneville Salt Flats Tuesday night.

At 10:10 p.m., the Wendover Police Department and the Wendover Fire Department conducted an investigation of a motor vehicle accident approximately 10 miles northeast of the Tooele County city, said a news release.

“Wendover police determined that a 2008 Acura, occupied by three teenagers from the Salt Lake City area, were traveling approximately 100 mph on the Salt Flats and collided with an earthen berm with very little braking,” the news release said.

The severely injured 18-year-old driver was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by Wendover firefighters. An 18-year-old passenger and a 17-year-old passenger were also severely injured. All three occupants were transported by helicopter to the University of Utah hospital. It’s not clear at this stage whether the occupants were wearing seat belts.

The exact cause of the crash is under investigation.
