MOUNT PLEASANT, Utah, Oct. 11, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Three people were transported to the hospital Friday night, two in very serious condition, after a crash on State Route 89.

The collision happened near mile marker 275, two miles southwest of Mount Pleasant in Sanpete County shortly after 9:30 p.m.

A Chevy pickup truck was traveling behind a minivan, Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Colton Freckleton said.

The pickup truck attempted to pass the minivan on the right shoulder, Freckleton told Gephardt Daily, but there is no shoulder there, and the pickup went off the road and then pulled back into the travel lane, striking the minivan.

The two people in the minivan were transported to the hospital by medical helicopter. Their injuries were described as very serious.

The male driver of the Chevy pickup was transported to a local hospital by ground ambulance. Freckleton said his injuries were minor to serious, but not life-threatening.

The crash was still under investigation and not many details were available. Freckleton said it’s possible the driver of the pickup may be investigated for DUI as a matter of protocol.

Gephardt Daily will update this story as more information is made known.
