JUAB COUNTY, Utah, May 21, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A 39-year-old man is dead after his 4-wheeler collided with a side-by-side in the Sand Mountain area of Juab County Monday afternoon.

Juab County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Brent Pulver told Gephardt Daily the deceased man has been identified as Robert Bilanzich, from Sandy.

Pulver said a 911 call was made by a family member of the victim, at approximately 1:30 p.m., reporting the crash in a remote area on the back side of Sand Mountain. The area is only accessible by a 4-wheeler or ATV equipped for sand, Pulver said.

The man was in the area with family members, Pulver said, when the 4-wheeler he was riding collided with another individual on a side-by-side. The person on the side-by-side, who was not known to the victim, was not injured.

Though cell service is spotty in that area, a family member was able to call 911.

A medical helicopter responded and arrived on the scene before emergency crews could reach the man by ground. Pulver said the helicopter’s medical crew tried to assist the man, but he passed away before being transported.

The exact cause of the crash is under investigation, Pulver added. He did say the dunes in that area are particularly large.

Sand Mountain is approximately 15 miles southwest of Jericho in Juab County.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
